X-Ray Spectroscopy of Cobaltites

A classic example of cobaltites with a low-spin configuration of cobalt ions is lithium cobaltite LiCoO 2 that is a well-known material for power source cathodes. The nature of holes in defective cobaltites of the Li x CoO 2 (x < 1) type is considered. It is shown that holes arising from defects in the lithium sublattice are of an oxygen nature.

Cobaltite Mineral Data

Reddish silver white, Violet steel gray, Black. Density: 6.33. Diaphaneity: Opaque. Fracture: Brittle - Generally displayed by glasses and most non-metallic minerals. Habit: Granular …

Cobaltite

Cobalt usually occurs in the form of sulfite or with arsenic. Cobalt minerals are cobaltite CoAsS, linnaeite Co3 S 4, smaltite (Co,Ni)As, and carrolite CuCo 2 S 4. Cobalt can have a valence from − 1 to + 4, but in water it appears as the ion Co 2+. In anthropogenically contaminated water, Co can bind with cyanide or ammonia as K 4 [Co (CN) 6] and K 3 …

Cobalt Oxides | Wiley Online Books

Special emphasis is placed on a comprehensive discussion of cobaltite physical properties in different structural families. Providing a thorough introduction to cobalt oxides from a chemical and physical viewpoint as a basis for understanding their intricacies, this is a must-have for both experienced researchers as well as entrants to …

First-principles study of crystal and electronic structure of …

Using density functional theory plus self-consistent Hubbard (DFT) calculations, we have investigated the structural and electronic properties of the rare-earth cobaltites textit {R}CoO (textit {R} = Pr -- Lu). Our calculations show the evolution of crystal and electronic structure of the insulating low-spin (LS) textit {R}CoO with increasing rare …

Cobalt

Cobalt is generally obtained from the minerals cobaltite and smaltite (cobalt arsenide). Other cobalt-bearing minerals include erythrite, glaucodot and linnaeite (cobalt sulfide). …

Tuning Thermoelectric Properties of Misfit Layered …

We have applied density functional theory and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy to investigate the relationship between chemically induced strain and charge transfer on the structural, electronic, vibrational, and thermoelectric properties of misfit layered cobaltites (M2CoO3)0.6CoO2 (M = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba). The electron and phonon …

Covalency Competition Induced Active Octahedral Sites in …

Spinel cobaltites are widely presented as promising pseudocapacitive materials, however, a fundamental understanding of their structure–property relationship at an atomic level remains vague. Herein, their geometrical-site-dependent charge storage capability is investigated by substituting Co with inactive Zn and redox-active Mn. …

Phys. Rev. B 62, 166 (2000)

Combining electron diffraction, x-ray diffraction, and high-resolution electron microscopy techniques, a structural model for the cobaltite " Ca 3 Co 4 O 9 " has been found. This compound is a misfit-layered oxide consisting in two monoclinic subsystems with identical a, c, and β parameters, but different b parameters: a = 4.8376 ( 7) Å, c = …

Geometallurgy of cobalt ores: A review

Cobaltite

Cobaltite is a strategically significant mineral (Fig. 1.17) composed of cobalt, arsenic, and sulfur (CoAsS) crystallizing in the orthorhombic (or pseudocubic) system resembling pyrite. It contains up to 10% iron and a valuable amount of nickel. The name is derived from the German "Kobold" meaning "underground spirit" or "goblin" in ...

nanoGe

The group of BaLnCo2O6-δ cobaltites (Ln – lanthanides) are promising well-recognized mixed ionic-electronic conductors, with a mobile electrons/electron holes, oxygen ions, and, in some cases, protons. Such a materials can be applied in the hydrogen technology sector e.g. as electrodes for proton ceramic fuel cells and electrolysers [1,2]. …

Cobaltite

Description. A common ore commercially mined from moons, Cobaltite is very useful as it yields good quantities of Cobalt, a significant element of many advanced materials.

Recent development in spinel cobaltites for supercapacitor application

In this aspect, cobaltite system with spinel structure has been the subject of intense research due to its established applications in electrochemistry. Besides, carbonaceous materials like activated carbons, carbon nanotubes, graphites, graphenes and fullerenes utilize electric double-layer capacitance whereby energy is stored by …

Hexagonal perovskite cobaltites: Unconventional magnetism …

In the following, we report on the magnetic properties of the 12H hexagonal perovskite, Ba 0.9 CoO 2.6, and especially on the abrupt magnetization jumps observed at low T (<5 K). These data are compared to those obtained for the oxygen stoïchiometric 2H-BaCoO 3 phase and those reported for Ca 3 Co 2 O 6[11], [12], [13], [14], [15].
